Teupen Access Platform checks-in at the Dunkeld Hilton

Arboretum Internationale of Perth, the UK's most northerly member of the Arboricultural Association, has taken delivery of a Teupen Leo23GT tracked access platform from UK importer Ranger Equipment.

The machine has primarily been purchased following the company's recent acquisition of a three year contract to maintain some 200 acres of ancient woodland on the banks of the river Tay owned by the Dunkeld Hilton Hotel.

The mix of broadleaf and coniferous trees are in generally poor condition and not safe to climb and deal with from a traditional rope harness. The only alternative to enable pruning of the canopy edges and removal of unwanted branches was to make use of a suitable access platform and a tracked version was the obvious answer to provide maximum versatility when working in remote, often difficult to reach areas.

Commenting on the choice of Teupen, Arboretum Internationale's managing director Paul Hanson said: “Safety is our number one priority and the many features and abilities offered by the Leo23GT allows us to use it on most of our jobs with total confidence.” Mr. Hanson continued: “Initially we weren't sure if we could afford the machine, now we realise we couldn't afford to be without it!”

The Leo23GT, one of a large range of tracked models available from Teupen, provides a maximum working height of 23 m with up to 11.2 m of outreach and is powered by a water cooled, 2-cylinder Kubota diesel engine developing 8.9 kW (12.1 hp) @ 3600 rpm.

The machine is able to tackle hills of up to 30% grade and, because it sports height and width adjustable tracks, is able to safely negotiate cross slopes by raising one side of the machine. This outstanding rough terrain performance is further helped by an ability to extend the track width to a maximum of 1.43 m.
