Teupen Access Platforms prove ideal for church restoration project
A pair of Teupen Leo15GT tracked access platforms on hire from
Fenton Access Solutions of Reading are being used to help with the
restoration of a fire damaged Grade 1 listed church in Devizes.
St. John the Baptist church, one of the most important the country with a history dating back to 1136, was the victim of an arson attack in September 2006 which caused considerable damage, not the least of which was the smoke blackening of most of the internal stonework.
Belfor (UK), a flood and fire damage restoration specialist,
was selected to perform the delicate cleaning operation using
a proprietary spray-on latex based product which, once set, is
pealed off in sheets to reveal the original natural stone colour.
The use of traditional scaffolding was ruled-out at an early
stage for fear of damaging any of the historic stonework and
the decision taken to source suitable platforms from Fenton.
The Teupen platforms, imported by sole UK dealer Ranger Equipment
of Chesterfield, have proved to be the perfect choice for the
application, being narrow enough, at 780 mm, to gain entry into
the building via a doorway and light enough to operate in complete
safety on temporary wooden flooring laid to protect a network
of delicate heating ductwork.
The Leo15GT has the ability to access all the required areas
within the church using its maximum working height of 14.90 m
and lateral outreach of 6.40 m - even with two operatives in
the basket.
In addition, because of the machine's fully proportional controls,
the basket can be manoeuvred into the correct position both slowly
and with great precision, hence eliminating any fear of accidently
hitting walls or columns.
Commenting on the platforms, Belfor's business stream manager Tony McAdams said: "I am very happy with the overall performance and stability of the Teupen units on this difficult job and the service provided by both Fenton and Ranger Equipment."
