Flagship Teupen Platform proves ideal for cleaning at height on new Yorkshire development

A 50 m reach Leo 50GTX tracked access platform, flagship of the German manufactured Teupen range, has recently been used for high level window cleaning duties on the £70M Victoria Mills development at Shipley in West Yorkshire.

Newmason Properties is currently 4 1/2 years into a major project to provide a total of 447 prestigious apartments, approximately half of which are being created within Victorian mill buildings dating back to 1874 and close to the Saltaire World Heritage Site.

The Teupen platform, on hire from UK importer Ranger Equipment of Chesterfield, was able to easily reach the highest windows around the complex using its maximum working height of 50 m and impressive horizontal outreach of up to 17 m.

The only alternative to hiring the machine would have been to scaffold both structures on site at a cost in the region of £20,000 and would have taken several days to erect and dismantle with all the associated noise and disturbance to residents.

According to Kristy Kinghorn, Newmason's operations manager: "Special buildings like Victoria Mills require special machines and the 50GTX we spotted at the Great Yorkshire Show last year is an amazing piece of kit and got the whole job done in just three days."

Being mounted on a self-propelled, non-marking rubber tracked undercarriage, the platform was able to move around the 5.5 acre site using pedestrian walkways without causing damage to freshly cobbled paths and be set-up to reach all necessary areas with ease thanks to its narrow travel width of just 1.58 m. In addition, its flexible outrigger system provided the necessary operating stability, even when the available working space was at a premium.
